A 16-year-old girl is living in Boston with her aunt, but she hates her aunt's alcoholic husband. She also is having difficulties at school and getting in trouble for shoplifting. Her aunt decides to ship her to Argentina to live with her grandmother, who hates America and Americans. Hardly welcome and speaking little Spanish, the teenage girl must now adapt to a new lifestyle in a strange country with no friends and cold relatives.
