A Chinese Tall Story is a 2005 fantasy-adventure film directed by Jeffrey Lau and starring Nicholas Tse, Charlene Choi, and Bingbing Fan. The film is based on the classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West" and takes place during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) in China. The story begins with a young monk named Tripitaka (Nicholas Tse) who is sent on a mission to retrieve a Buddhist scripture from the Western Regions. Together, they embark on a dangerous journey to retrieve the sacred scripture.

As they travel, they encounter many obstacles including supernatural creatures and treacherous terrain. However, their biggest obstacle comes in the form of the evil ruler of the Western Regions, the Buffalo Demon King (Tony Leung Ka-fai). The Buffalo Demon King has his own plans for the sacred scripture and will stop at nothing to get it.

Along the way, Tripitaka meets and falls in love with the beautiful and mysterious Princess Xiaoshan (Bingbing Fan). However, their love is put to the test when the Buffalo Demon King captures Xiaoshan and uses her as leverage to get the scripture from Tripitaka.
