A Letter from Death Row is a 1998 independent thriller film written and directed by Bret Michaels, the lead singer of the popular rock band Poison. It features a Black mirror-style plot that revolves around a death-row prisoner named Michael Raine (Bret Michaels). Raine is an ex-rocker framed for the murder of his girlfriend Mallory (Kristi Gibson), and he is only days away from his execution. As he waits in his cell, he decides to write a letter to beautiful Hollywood reporter Natasha Divine (Kristi Gibson) and ask her to cover his story. Initially hesitant to take on the assignment, Divine is lured in by Raine's charm, and she begins to investigate the case.

The movie disconnects from the main narrative and imagines how Raine's story could have happened through music videos. In these videos, Bret Michaels acts as an interviewee, discussing Raine's story with other band members, which becomes best pathos for the film. Through the music videos, we learn that Raine's motivation for the murder was to get revenge on a corrupt music industry executive named Warden Earl Kelton (Martin Sheen). Kelton is responsible for Matt's descent into drug addiction, and he even tried to have Mallory killed when she found out too much.

As Divine delves deeper into the case, she finds that the evidence against Raine is flimsy at best, and that Kelton and his associates are hiding something. Meanwhile, Raine's execution approaches, and his supporters outside the prison mount demonstrations in a bid to save his life.

The film's themes include the corrupt nature of the music industry and the legal system, and the idea of fighting against oppression. The movie depicts how artists are subjected to the influence of industry insiders and the masses.

A Letter from Death Row is a movie of twists and turns that keeps viewers guessing until the final scene. The traditional thriller elements of the plot are balanced by the use of flashbacks and music videos. As a result, viewers get a glimpse of Raine's past and imagine how he could have ended up in his current state.

The acting in the movie is not the strongest, but the performances from the three main characters Bret Michaels, Martin Sheen, and Kristi Gibson, are all good enough to carry the plot forward. Bret Michaels, in particular, does a good job of portraying a tortured and unjustly sentenced man who is slowly coming apart at the seams.

Overall, A Letter from Death Row is a unique thriller that is not afraid to take risks with a traditional narrative structure. The use of music videos and flashbacks provides an intriguing look at the characters' backstories, and the themes of the movie are thought-provoking. It may not be the most polished or well-acted movie, but it is certainly worth a watch.
