Aatma is a 2013 Hindi-language horror film directed by Suparn Verma and produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak. The film stars Bipasha Basu and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles. It is the story of a single mother Maya (Bipasha Basu) and her 6-year-old daughter Nia (Doyel Dhawan). They are trying to move on from their past and begin a new life, but their sadistic father Abhay (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) will not let them.

Maya is an independent woman who has faced a lot of struggle in her life. She is married to Abhay, but their relationship turned sour when Abhay started abusing her. Eventually, Maya could not take it anymore and left him along with their daughter Nia. Despite having a restraining order against him, Abhay is still obsessed with his family and will do anything to get them back.

The film opens with Abhay's funeral, where Maya is still in denial about his death. She discovers that Abhay has come back as a ghost, and he is out to kill their daughter. Maya tries to protect her daughter from the evil spirit, but things are not as simple as they seem.

As the story unfolds, one gets to know more about Abhay's past and the reason why he is so possessive of his family. Through flashbacks, we see that Abhay was not a bad person, but he had his share of issues that led him to become the abusive husband that he was. We also get to know the reason why Maya chose to leave him and start a new life.

Aatma is not your typical horror movie where the ghost is just out to scare people. The film explores the complex relationship between a mother and her daughter and how they deal with the trauma of domestic violence. It highlights the struggle of a woman who is trying to keep her family safe from an unseen enemy. The film is a blend of horror and drama, and it is executed well.

Bipasha Basu as Maya delivers an impressive performance. She portrays a mother's love for her daughter and the fear of losing her. Doyel Dhawan as Nia is adorable and portrays the innocence of a child beautifully. Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Abhay is terrifying. He brings out the sinister and sadistic side of the character and makes the audience root for Maya and Nia.

The film's cinematography is excellent, and the background score is haunting. The editing is tight, and the story flows seamlessly. The film's climax is surprising and satisfying, and it leaves the audience thinking about the characters even after the film is over.

Overall, Aatma is an enjoyable horror film that is not just about jump scares but explores deeper themes. It is a psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The film is perfect for horror fans who want to watch something that is not just a run-of-the-mill ghost movie.

Aatma is a 2013 mystery with a runtime of 1 hour and 31 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.9.
