Watch Against All Odds
Envision intrigue, a love story and dark mystery. That all rolled into one sums up the moving story of "Against All Odds". Starring Jeff Bridges, Rachel Ward and James Woods, this stirring film by director Taylor Hackford will keep the viewer entertained and on the edge of their seat from beginning to end, along with entwining a beautiful love story.
Interwoven into the storyline which begins with a man sent to find a gangster's missing girlfriend and retrieve her, the twists and turns quickly show that the direction you think the plot will take is certainly not the case. Many factors come together to complicate the relationship that starts to form between the ex-football player given the assignment of finding the girl. Jeff Bridges and Rachel Ward give outstanding performances as lovers never meant to be.
James Woods is unmatched as the evil force that drives the darker side of the film. His presence overshadows the beauty of a budding love as his grip on the young woman becomes apparent to be both sinister and mysterious. You can tell Woods relishes the role he is playing and his performance is magnificent. Hackford in his directing never plays it safe with his shots and letting the actors have control of their emotions and the audiences as well.
Anyone that has ever been in a relationship will feel and understand the longing and yearning between the two forbidden lovers. People who have been in relationships that had to end due to wrong timing, circumstances or simply being unable to stay in a relationship for whatever reason will have their emotions tapped into greatly with the excellent acting and directing of this fine film.
"Against All Odds" is an entertaining piece, but also a movie that stays with the viewer long after the credits roll. Add to that an amazing soundtrack by Phil Collins and the package is complete. Mr. Collins' haunting closing number especially covers a range of emotions and whenever one hears the songs from the film long after, the same feelings can surface, making the viewer want to see it once again.
A remarkable movie with amazing directing and acting, plus fantastic scenery from being shot on location in Mexico, this is not a film to miss. A timeless story, a beautiful love story and strong dark undertones make for classic piece.
