Airborne is a 1998 American sports comedy-drama film directed by Rob Bowman and starring Shane McDermott, Seth Green, Brittney Powell, Chris Conrad, Edie McClurg, and Patrick Thomas O'Brien. The film is set in Cincinnati, where Mitchell Goosen (McDermott), a surfer from California, goes to live with his relatives after his parents go on a mission to Australia for a few months. Mitchell has never played ice hockey before, but when his new friends find out he is a surfer, they say he has excellent balance and therefore would be a natural skater. The group decides to teach Mitchell how to play ice hockey and to join their team, which is competing in a big tournament against their rivals, the preppy varsity team. Mitchell's ability to surf makes him one of the fastest skaters on the ice, and he soon becomes the star of the team.

The film begins with a surf competition in California, where Mitchell is competing against his arch-rival Jack (Chris Conrad). Jack bullies Mitchell after the competition, making fun of his name and telling him he could never be a real surfer. Mitchell's parents come to his defense, and Jack pushes his father, causing him to break his leg. This incident causes Mitchell's parents to be called away to Australia, leaving Mitchell to live with his aunt and uncle in Cincinnati.

Upon his arrival in Cincinnati, Mitchell is introduced to the new environment by taking a tour with his cousin Wiley (Seth Green). Mitchell immediately takes a dislike to his cousin and his friends, who are preppy and snobbish varsity ice hockey players at their high school. The group makes fun of Mitchell's California style, calling him a surfer and making him feel like an outsider.

Mitchell's fortunes start to turn around when he meets Nikki (Brittney Powell), a beautiful figure skater who is part of the cheerleading squad for the hockey team. Nikki is friendly towards Mitchell, and they become friends. Nikki's brother, who is also on the hockey team, notices Mitchell's excellent balance and suggests he join the team. Mitchell is reluctant at first, but Nikki and her brother convince him that he would be perfect for the team.

The story takes a turn when Mitchell's surfboard is stolen. He becomes obsessed with finding the thief and starts to lose focus on the hockey team. Meanwhile, the team is preparing for a crucial tournament against their rivals, the preppy varsity team. The team starts to lose hope when their star player is injured, and they begin to rely on Mitchell to win the game.

Airborne is an entertaining and lighthearted movie. The storyline is simple and easy to follow, with the added bonus of thrilling hockey matches and surfing action. The film's message about accepting people for who they are and finding your place in a new environment is relatable and uplifting. The film's cast is exceptional, with Shane McDermott giving a standout performance as the likable Mitchell. Seth Green is also memorable as Mitchell's annoying cousin, Wiley. The supporting characters, including Nikki and the hockey team, are well-developed and add depth to the story.

The film's soundtrack is another highlight, featuring popular 90s bands such as Blink-182, Lit, and Sugar Ray. The music adds to the film's fun and upbeat atmosphere and complements the action on screen.

Overall, Airborne is an enjoyable movie for anyone who loves sports, especially ice hockey and surfing. Its positive and uplifting message and its lovable characters make it an excellent choice for family viewing.

Airborne is a 1998 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 31 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.1.
