All The Pretty Horses is a romantic drama starring Matt Damon and Penelope Cruz. The film centers around two friends from Texas, Cole and Rawlins, who decide to head to Mexico to earn a living working as cowboys. On the way down there they meet Alejandra. Alejandra is the beautiful young daughter of a powerful rancher and Cole instantly falls in love with her.
Cole and Rawlins begin working for Alejandra's father on his ranch. When her family discovers the romance between Alejandra and Cole, they are furious. Alejandra's father has Cole and Rawlins arrested and thrown into jail. They two men have a rough time in the violent Mexican prison and they narrowly escape death from the hands of other inmates. Even the captain who runs the prison is violent, attempting to keep order by beating men. The two men are freed by Alejandra's family only after they promise never to see Alejandra again. Rawlins instantly heads back to Texas but Cole is determined to see Alejandra.
Alejandra has made a promise to her family not to see Cole and she decides to keep her word. Cole tries to get her to go back to Texas with him but she refuses to. Cole decides to take his revenge on the violent prison captain and ends up killing him. He is despondent and begins to head back to Texas with his and Rawlins' horses. He is stopped and accused of being a horse thief. He is arrested and forced to go to trial. The judge ends up believing Cole's story and his acquitted. The judge encourages Cole to let all of the drama of Mexico stay in the past and to get on with his life. Cole reluctantly agrees and he heads to Rawlins' ranch to reunites with his friend.
