Alter Egos is a 2012 independent comedy film directed and written by Jordan Galland, produced by Carlos Velazquez, and stars Kris Lemche, Brooke Nevin, Joey Kern, Daniel Sauli, John Ventimiglia, and Christine Evangelista. The film's premise revolves around a group of superheroes, referred to as "alter egos," led by a reluctant hero named Fridge (Kris Lemche), who is struggling to find his place in the world after hanging up his cape. Fridge and his team must come out of retirement to stop a mad scientist who threatens to destroy both their world and the real world.

The movie takes place in a world where superheroes are commonplace, but have fallen out of favor with the public due to their questionable methods and egos. Fridge, the former hero, now works as a night watchman at a mental institution, where he spends his time catching up on classic literature rather than fighting crime. However, when a threat arises in the form of a mad scientist named Edward (John Ventimiglia), who plans to release a deadly virus that will only affect those with superpowers, Fridge is forced to come out of retirement and reunite with his old team of superheroes.

Fridge's team consists of C-Thru (Joey Kern), a hero who can turn invisible, Claudel (Daniel Sauli), a French-accented hero with super-strength, and Jimmy (Charlie Mills), a teenage sidekick with little experience. Together, they embark on a mission to stop Edward and save their world.

Along the way, Fridge meets a new love interest, Gwen (Brooke Nevin), who happens to be Edward's daughter. As the group navigates their mission, they begin to question who they are as heroes and what their purpose truly is. The film explores themes of identity, acceptance, and the blurred lines between heroism and villainy.

One of the standout elements of Alter Egos is its humor, which ranges from witty one-liners to physical comedy. The film's self-awareness of the superhero genre and its tropes adds to the humor, making it a fun watch for fans of the genre. However, the humor never overwhelms the story, which is well-paced and engaging.

Another strong element of the film is the performances of its cast. Kris Lemche delivers a nuanced and empathetic performance as Fridge, a reluctant hero searching for purpose. Brooke Nevin brings depth to Gwen, a character who could easily have been a one-dimensional love interest. Joey Kern and Daniel Sauli provide comedic relief as C-Thru and Claudel, respectively, and Charlie Mills holds his own as the naive Jimmy.

While Alter Egos may not be the most groundbreaking or thought-provoking superhero film, it offers a fresh take on the genre with its humor and character-driven story. It's a film that doesn't take itself too seriously, but still manages to deliver a satisfying and entertaining experience.

Alter Egos is a 2012 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 17 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.2.
