Samostoyatelnaya Zhizn or An Independent Life is a 1992 Russian movie directed by Vitali Kanevsky. The movie was an international co-production between firms in the UK, France as well as Russia, including PolyGram Filmed Entertainment and StudioCanal. This movie hasn't been shown in the English-speaking world yet. It had been entered in the 1992 Cannes Film Festival and nominated for the Golden Bear at the 42nd Berlin International Film Festival.

The movie is the second version of a three-part series of autobiographical movies in regards to the director's life. By the end of the movie, set in the ending of the Second World War. In the movie, the youthful Valerka was striving hard to beat the inertia of simply getting by along with his sometime buddy Galiya.
