Antarctic Journal is a South Korean horror film that follows a group of explorers on a research trip to Antarctica. The film stars Song Kang-ho as Choi Do-hyung, the leader of the expedition, Yoo Ji-tae as Kim Min-jae, a scholar looking for new discoveries, and Kyeong-ik Kim as Lee Young-min, a cameraman. As soon as the team arrives at the icy continent, they begin to experience strange occurrences that they cannot explain. They set up camp in an abandoned base, and soon find strange artifacts and human remains that seem to be from a previous expedition. The team members start to feel restless and paranoid, and begin to experience horrific nightmares and visions.

The film is told from the perspective of Choi Do-hyung, who keeps a journal of the expedition. As the exploration continues, the journal entries become more and more erratic, revealing the characters' deteriorating mental states. It becomes clear that the team is in danger from something unknown and malevolent lurking in the ice.

The film uses the vast, isolated landscape of Antarctica to create a palpable sense of dread and isolation. The characters are trapped in a harsh, unforgiving environment with no escape, and their paranoia and fear are heightened by the vast emptiness around them.

Song Kang-ho delivers a standout performance as Choi Do-hyung, a deeply flawed character whose past is revealed through flashbacks. He is haunted by his past mistakes and struggles to lead the team in the face of mounting danger. Yoo Ji-tae is also excellent as Kim Min-jae, the scholar whose scholarly ambitions might be leading the team towards disaster.

The film is shot in a gritty, naturalistic style that adds to the sense of realism. The special effects are sparingly used but effective, creating a sense of unease without resorting to jump scares or excessive gore. The film's eerie score adds another layer of atmosphere, with moments of tense silence punctuated by sharp, unsettling strings.

Antarctic Journal is a slow-burning horror film that steadily builds tension and unease until its shocking conclusion. The film's ambiguous and haunting ending is sure to leave viewers thinking long after the credits roll. Fans of atmospheric horror films such as The Thing and The Shining will find much to appreciate in this chilling exploration of the unknown.

Antarctic Journal is a 2005 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 54 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.9.
