Atlas Shrugged: Part II is second film in an aspiring trilogy based off of author Ayn Rand's proclitic and highly controversial novel Atlas Shrugged. The world of Atlas Shrugged is one of a world on the brink of war and destruction, fueled by a tyrannical government that through greed has oppressed its people to the point of chaos. Atlas Shrugged: Part II picks off right where its predecessor Atlas Shrugged: Part 1 left off. Protagonist Dagny Taggart and associates Hank Rearden, and Quentin Daniels are attempting to unravel the mysteries of the advanced motor prototype they had previously discovered. Dagny's Brother James Taggart who runs the Taggart family rail road business takes friend Cherryl Brooks to a show, during which she disappears leaving a note asking "Who is John Galt?" launching one of the persevering mysteries of the film.
Dagny's aforementioned associate Hank Rearden is involved in a subplot dealing with corruption and the greed of the government. When Rearden learns through a secret tip that his copper mine will soon fall victim to a catastrophic explosion, he decides to sell his business to coal mining tycoon Ken Dannager. However the corrupt government has enacted the "fair share" act which states that potential sellers must sell proportionally to all buyers including the government themselves, however Rearden refuses knowing the law is corrupt and wrong and is prosecuted and brought to court by the government.
Although the film has a cast of relatively unknown actors/ actresses they all still give solid performances, and you can feel the emotion they pour out in there portrayals of Ayn Rand's legendary characters. Atlas Shrugged: Part II stars Samantha Mathis as Dagny Taggart, Jason Beghe as Henry Rearden, Patrick Fabian as James Taggart, Kim Rhodes as Lillian Rearden, D.B.
