Autumn Sun is a touching Argentine film that explores the relationship between a mother and her estranged son. Released in 1996, the movie was directed by Eduardo Mignogna and stars a talented ensemble cast consisting of Norma Aleandro, Federico Luppi, and Jorge Luz. The film is set in Buenos Aires, and Aleandro portrays a middle-aged woman named Emilia, who is a former Second World War concentration camp survivor. Despite having had a difficult life of her own, Emilia is always willing to extend a helping hand to those in need. She runs a charity that provides free meals to the city's poor residents and is very active in her community.

One day, Emilia receives an unexpected phone call from her son Jorge, whom she has not seen in over twenty years. Jorge, played by Federico Luppi, has been living in Mexico for many years and has now returned to Argentina. He had little to no contact with his mother over the years, and their relationship has been strained due to several misunderstandings.

Emilia welcomes Jorge into her home with open arms, and the two attempt to reconnect and heal old wounds. Initially, the reunion is a bit awkward, and both mother and son struggle to bridge the gap that has developed between them over the years. However, as the days go by, they begin to open up to one another, and the painful memories of the past begin to surface.

As they spend more time together, we see that Jorge has several deep-seated issues that he has been unable to overcome. He is deeply troubled and suffers from depression, which manifests itself through his excessive drinking and sometimes-aggressive behavior. However, Emilia's unconditional love and patience help him to come to terms with his past and begin to heal.

As the story unfolds, we see a beautiful portrayal of the relationship between a mother and son. The movie is very authentic in its depiction of the complex emotions and issues that can arise in such a relationship, especially when there has been a period of estrangement.

At the heart of the film is Norma Aleandro's stunning performance as Emilia. She portrays the character with an incredible depth of emotion, conveying both strength and vulnerability in equal measure. Her portrayal of a woman who has survived one of the worst atrocities in history and has gone on to lead a life of compassion and love is inspiring.

Federico Luppi is no less impressive in his role as Jorge. He brings a great sense of realism to the character, effectively conveying the pain and confusion that have plagued him for years. In many ways, the character of Jorge is a reflection of many in our society today, who are struggling with their own issues and insecurities.

Director Eduardo Mignogna has done an excellent job of crafting a film that is both poignant and uplifting. His intimate portrayal of the mother-son relationship is honest, nuanced, and deeply moving. The film's pacing is slow in parts, but this only serves to allow the characters' emotional journeys the time they need to develop.

Overall, Autumn Sun is a beautiful and poignant film that will leave viewers touched and moved. It is a must-see for anyone who appreciates a well-crafted, emotionally-gripping drama. The performances by the lead actors are nothing short of outstanding, and the film's themes of forgiveness, hope and the enduring power of love will resonate with audiences long after the credits have rolled.
