Ayya is a 2005 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by Hari. Starring Sarath Kumar in the titular role, the film also features Nayanthara, Prakash Raj, and Napoleon in pivotal roles. The film revolves around Ayyadurai (Sarath Kumar), an honest and straightforward village head, who takes it upon himself to protect his village from external threats and internal politics.

The film opens with Ayyadurai and his wife Bhavani (Lakshmi) running a grocery store in their village. Though their financial situation is not great, they are content with their simple life. However, things take a turn when the village panchayat elections are announced. The current panchayat president, Duraipandi (Raj Kapoor), a corrupt politician backed by a local don, wants to retain his position. He sees Ayyadurai as a threat to his position and starts using his muscle power to intimidate him. But Ayyadurai, who enjoys the trust and respect of his village people, decides to contest against him.

During the campaign, Ayyadurai comes across a troubled woman named Selvi (Nayanthara), who works as a maid in a wealthy family in the nearby city. Selvi is being harassed by her employer and his son for money and sexual favors. Ayyadurai takes it upon himself to rescue Selvi and bring her back to the village. This incident not only earns Ayyadurai the love and respect of Selvi but also makes him a hero in the eyes of his fellow villagers.

But Duraipandi, unwilling to let go of his position, uses his political influence to create trouble for Ayyadurai. He conspires with the local don, Kondaiah (Napoleon), and frames Ayyadurai for a murder that he did not commit. Ayyadurai, now on the run, must use all his wit and courage to prove his innocence and expose the corrupt politicians.

The second half of the movie is a thrilling ride, with Ayyadurai engaging in one-on-one combat with Kondaiah's henchmen and taking the fight directly to the corrupt politicians. The film also has a love angle between Selvi and Ayyadurai, which is beautifully portrayed without interfering with the main plot.

The performances in the movie are top-notch, with Sarath Kumar shining in the lead role. His portrayal of a man who stands up for what is right no matter the consequences is both believable and inspiring. Nayanthara, though in a brief role, delivers a strong performance, particularly during the emotional scenes. Prakash Raj, as the inspector investigating the murder case, is convincing as usual.

The film is also well-made, with the director Hari delivering a tight screenplay that keeps the viewers engaged throughout. The action sequences choreographed by Anal Arasu are a treat to watch, and the music by Bharathwaj is melodious.

Overall, Ayya is a must-watch for anyone who loves a good action-drama movie. The film not only entertains but also delivers a powerful message about the importance of standing up for what is right. It is a timeless story that remains relevant even today.

Ayya is a 2005 drama with a runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.7.
