Blast from the Past is a 1999 romantic comedy film directed by Hugh Wilson and starring Brendan Fraser, Alicia Silverstone, and Christopher Walken. The film follows the story of a young man named Adam Webber (Fraser) who has been raised in a bomb shelter by his parents (played by Sissy Spacek and Christopher Walken) for 35 years. The movie takes place during the early 1960s, and when the Cuban Missile Crisis occurred, Adam's parents believed that a nuclear war had started, so they decided to hide in their own bomb shelter.

For the first time in 35 years, Adam is finally given the chance to venture out into the real world, in search of supplies for his family. Adam finds himself in the present day-- which is the 1990s-- and is surprised to discover that the world he had imagined is vastly different from the reality he has encountered.

The movie takes viewers on a rollercoaster ride of laughs, culture shock, and romance as Adam struggles to adjust to a world that he isn't familiar with. The film is a rare romantic-comedy that approaches the genre from an unusual perspective.

Brendan Fraser delivers an excellent performance as a young man who has been raised under unique circumstances. His sincerity, childlike innocence and charming disposition will keep viewers glued to their seats. Alicia Silverstone's performance is equally captivating as the lovely Californian, Eve Rustikoff, who becomes the object of Adam's affection.

As the film moves forward, Adam starts to explore the city with Eve and meets various people who begin to influence his perception of the world—from the swinging ‘60s to the boredom of the ‘90s.

Adam's father, Calvin Webber (Played by Christopher Walken), is an interesting character who is both stubborn and intelligent. He's stood his ground since 1962 and still believes that a nuclear war has destroyed everything outside the bomb shelter. In his mind, he is the only one who knows how to survive and doesn't want to venture outside the shelter. He is the perfect example of a man stuck in time, an anchor to the past.

While exploring the city of Los Angeles, Adam and Eve gradually fall in love. Eve helps Adam learn how to navigate the complexities of the modern world, from quirky cultural references to the wonders of the internet.

Throughout the film, Adam's parents remain skeptical— they believe everything outside is in ruins, and their son must be saved. They never fully understand the scope of the changes that have taken place since they entered the shelter 35 years ago.

Blast from the Past touches on elements of science fiction, adventure, and romance. It's a beautiful love story that breaks boundaries and time, an engaging comedy that will make viewers laugh until their sides hurt, and an extraordinary drama that delivers profound life lessons without being overly sentimental.

Overall, Blast from the Past is a well-made romantic-comedy that tackles the age-old question of what would happen if we were to live in seclusion from the world for an extended period. The movie features a relatable cast of characters, a beautiful score, and beautiful scenery. The film is sure to leave viewers feeling uplifted, inspired and in-love. It's a joyful reminder to cherish the people and the moments we have in life.

Blast from the Past is a 1999 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 52 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.7 and a MetaScore of 48.
