Bliss is an Australian film from 1985, directed by Ray Lawrence, that follows the life of Harry Joy, a successful advertising executive who, after experiencing a heart attack, becomes convinced that he has died and is living in a version of hell. The movie explores themes of consumerism, the nature of reality, and the search for genuine happiness.

Barry Otto delivers a fantastic performance as Harry Joy, a man whose eyes are opened to the true nature of his life after his heart attack. He realizes that everything he thought he knew about his life was a lie, and he embarks on a quest to discover the true meaning of happiness. As he tries to reclaim his life, he is faced with the dark reality of his existence, revealing the ugly nature of consumerism and the facade that people put on to maintain their happy lives.

Lynette Curran plays Harry's wife, Betty Joy, who is revealed to be the root of all his problems. She is a controlling and manipulative woman who has been having an affair with Harry's best friend, Alex Duval (played by John Flaus), and running their advertising agency behind Harry's back. Through Harry's awakening, he sees the truth about his wife, Alex, and everyone around him, and realizes that he must take action to escape this nightmare.

Helen Jones is fantastic as Harry's young daughter, Lucy Joy, who becomes essential to the movie's plot. Lucy is a bright and innocent girl who sees the world through her father's newly opened eyes, and her role in the film contributes to the story's emotional complexity. Aside from the main cast, there are several minor characters, each of whom contributes to the story's message and meaning.

The movie's narrative structure is nonlinear, as it jumps back and forth between Harry's past and present, adding to the complexity of the plot. Through these flashbacks, the audience is exposed to the many layers of lies and deceit within Harry's life, and the film continues to build tension as Harry gains a new perspective on everything that has happened to him.

Aside from the plot's deeper meaning, the film also has stunning visuals, with beautiful cinematography that captures the mood and tone of the story perfectly. The movie is set in Australia, and the natural landscapes add a unique element to the film's aesthetic.

Bliss is an excellent movie that explores important themes through a compelling and thought-provoking story. The film's narrative structure, excellent cast, and beautiful cinematography make it a must-watch for anybody interested in exploring the complexities of modern life.
