"Bridget to Terabithia" is a film based on the novel of the same name. The 2007 release stars Josh Hutcherson and Anna Sohpia Robb. It is a coming of age tale focusing on two neighbors and best friends, Jesse Aarons and Leslie Burke. Jesse and Leslie meet in fifth grade. Jesse is an aspiring artist who keeps mostly to himself. Leslie is the new girl, moving to the area with her author parents. Jesse finds himself irritated with Leslie at first, since she bested all the boys in the grade during a race on her first day of school. However, the two begin bonding after she compliments his drawings. Soon, the two become inseparable.
Leslie and Jesse create their own fantasy world called Terabithia. They enter in the woods near their house, and their imaginations transport them to a world of make-believe. They are the rulers of Terabithia and their adventures in their land help them deal with the problems of their reality. School bullies and problems at home disguise themselves as ogres and trolls in their woods.
Later in the movie, Jesse is invited to a special art show because of his talent. Although Leslie is his best friend, he chooses to attend the art show on his own, keeping it a secret even from his family. Upon returning home, he finds tragedy has struck his home. A horrible storm has ravaged through the town. His parents were worried that something happened to him during the storm. It soon becomes apparent that a horrendous accident has befallen Leslie.
Through his brief relationship with Leslie, Jesse has discovered what is special within himself and his life. While most people would see Terabithia as an escape from reality, Jesse realizes that Terabithia was the way to truly find out who he is and can become. Thanks to Terabithia, Leslie will always be with Jesse.
