In Children of Men, it is the year 2027 and humanity has lost the ability to procreate, making the world a dying and desolate place. Theo (Clive Owen) is a disillusioned bureaucrat who is drawn back into a fight for the future of humanity when his former partner, Julian (Julianne Moore), asks for his help in escorting a young woman, Kee (Clare-Hope Ashitey), who has miraculously become pregnant, to safety.

The journey isn't easy, as a worldwide infertility epidemic has plunged the world into chaos and violence. Governments are crumbling, terrorist groups are rising, and the United Kingdom, where the story takes place, has become a military state, with refugees locked in internment camps and the military patrolling the streets.

Theo and Kee, with the help of a small group of rebels, must navigate the dangerous terrain to reach safety and ensure the survival of Kee's unborn child. Along the way, they encounter a slew of obstacles, including raids, ambushes, and betrayals, which highlight the devastating consequences of a world without hope.

As the journey progresses, Kee's pregnancy becomes known to the world, and Theo and his team must navigate both the dangers of the outside world and the politics of those seeking to control the miraculous child. The societal pressure and conflict caused by a child being born in a world without hope drives the story forward as lives are lost, sacrifices are made, and hope is found in the darkest of situations.

Throughout the film, the cinematography is stunning and illustrates the bleak and desolate world that the characters inhabit. Director Alfonso Cuarón presents an unflinching portrayal of a world ravaged by chaos, with the narrative steeped in political commentary, social commentary on immigration, and personal struggle.

Clive Owen gives a powerful performance as Theo, whose journey from a bleak and disconnected existence to a person who believes in something greater is compelling. Julianne Moore, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Michael Caine also deliver memorable performances, rounding out a stellar cast.

Overall, Children of Men is a thought-provoking and vivid exploration of the power of hope, the dangers of complacency, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.

Children of Men is a 2006 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 49 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.9 and a MetaScore of 84.
