Chithram is a classic Malayalam movie released in 1988. It was directed by Priyadarshan and starred Mohanlal, Nedumudi Venu, and Renjini in lead roles. The film’s plot revolves around a man named Vishnu (played by Mohanlal), who is heartbroken after being rejected by his lover and marries a wealthy heiress named Sreelekha (played by Renjini) to inherit her wealth. The story takes several twists and turns as Vishnu tries to keep his past hidden from Sreelekha.

The movie begins with Vishnu approaching an astrologer to predict his future after being rejected by his lover, Revathi (played by Shobana). The astrologer tells him that he will get married twice, and the marriage will bring him both fortune and misfortune. Vishnu, who is obsessed with Revathi, tries to reconcile with her but fails repeatedly. Heartbroken, he agrees to marry Sreelekha, who belongs to a wealthy family. Although he has no love for her, he sees this as an opportunity to inherit her wealth and lead a comfortable life.

After the marriage, Vishnu and Sreelekha move to the latter’s lavish mansion. However, Vishnu's past continues to haunt him. Sreelekha, who is genuinely interested in her husband, starts to sense that something is wrong. She later discovers Vishnu's love for Revathi and confronts him. Vishnu tries to convince Sreelekha that he has overcome his past and is committed to their marriage. However, his lies are eventually exposed when Revathi pays a surprise visit to their home.

The rest of the movie is a rollercoaster ride of emotions as the characters face one challenge after another. The plot is filled with humorous sequences and witty dialogues. The movie’s music, composed by Kannur Rajan, is equally delightful, with songs like “Karmukil Varnante” gaining immense popularity.

Mohanlal’s portrayal of Vishnu was brilliant, and he succeeded in evoking a range of emotions from the audience. Renjini played the role of Sreelekha exceptionally well, and her chemistry with Mohanlal added a touch of realism to the plot. Nedumudi Venu played the role of Krishnanunni, Sreelekha's father, who plays a significant role in the movie’s plot.
