The group eventually finds themselves in a military edition hummer constantly on the run as bases have become overrun with the undead and they have fewer and fewer options for shelter. At one point in the film, our secondary characters find refuge at a small, local radio station in another nearby town. Eventually this safe haven is taken over and the DJ is killed along with a few other people as one of our secondary characters is forced to kill his own mother who is now... a zombie.
Later in the film, we get back to the roots of the Romero original as the group reunites in an underground lab where they find a video tape made by a scientist explaining what is happening and why it has happened. In the midst of the calm, they discover this scientist is now a zombie and a very cunning one at that, almost a "master-zombie". As the group struggles to fight this master-zombie, dozens of undead get into the underground bunker, sending the group in a fight for survival. Eventually, the group escapes the bunker but not before blowing it up and getting away; of course not without losing a few people in the process.
The film ends with a few survivors driving away, but not before we get one last good scare as a zombie jumps onto the hood of the car.
