Deadline is a psychological thriller movie directed by Sean McConville and released in 2009. It tells the story of Alice (Brittany Murphy), a successful journalist who moves with her husband, David (Dean Cain), to a remote southern estate to work on her latest article. Alice is seven months pregnant and has a hard time dealing with her past, which includes the sudden death of her mother and some traumatic events that happened during her childhood. The isolation of the estate begins to take a toll on Alice, and she starts experiencing strange visions and hearing voices that seem to come from her past.

Despite her husband's support, Alice becomes increasingly obsessed with her work, and her journalistic quest leads her to investigate the tragic story of Mary-Ellen (Thora Birch), a young woman who was institutionalized in the 1930s for committing infanticide. Alice believes that Mary-Ellen was a victim of injustice and tries to uncover the truth about her case. As she delves deeper into the story, Alice finds herself facing a terrifying mystery that may be connected to her own life.

At the same time, Alice's mental state deteriorates rapidly, and she becomes more and more disconnected from reality. Her relationships with David and her best friend, Lucy (Tammy Blanchard), become strained as she becomes increasingly paranoid and starts to suspect everyone around her. As Alice's due date approaches, she realizes that she is caught in a web of lies, secrets, and dark forces that threaten to destroy her and her family.

The movie's plot is full of twists and turns that keep the audience guessing until the very end. The acting is superb, particularly that of Brittany Murphy, who turns in a brilliant performance as Alice. The cinematography is also excellent, with beautiful shots of the landscape and the eerie atmosphere of the estate that add to the movie's overall sense of dread.

One of the main themes of the movie is the nature of truth, and how people's perceptions and memories can be distorted by events and emotions. Alice's search for the truth about Mary-Ellen becomes intertwined with her own search for the truth about herself and her family. The movie raises questions about mental illness, trauma, and the legacy of the past, and it does so in a compelling and thought-provoking way.

Overall, Deadline is a gripping and suspenseful movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It's a testament to the talent of the late Brittany Murphy, who delivers a haunting performance in one of her last roles. If you're a fan of psychological thrillers, Deadline is definitely worth watching.
