Set in the exotic land of China, Diamond Dogs is a 2007 action thriller movie that centers on another adventure of a group of treasure hunters. Directed by Shimon Dotan, the movie features Dolph Lundgren, Nan Yu, and Xue Zuren in lead roles. The story follows Lundgren's character, Xander Ronson, a former mercenary, who leads a team of experts on a mission to retrieve a precious artifact from an ancient temple in China. Their quest takes a dangerous turn when they find themselves pitted against a notorious enemy, who will stop at nothing to get the treasure.

The movie kicks off with an intense, captivating opening scene that sets the tonality of the film. A mysterious, cloaked figure leads a group of monks on a journey to protect an ancient and precious artifact known as the Tangka. The Tangka is a sacred relic that holds special powers, and as a result, it has to be kept hidden and well-guarded. This prologue sets the stage for what's to come, and viewers get an idea of the kind of action and danger that will ensue.

The story picks up with Xander, a rough and tough but lovable rogue, who gets recruited by a wealthy businessman, Matt (William Shriver), to retrieve the valuable Tangka from a hidden temple deep in the mountains of China. Xander believes that the mission is straightforward and that with the right team, they can succeed. He wastes no time assembling his team of experts. The team includes Tommy (Nan Yu), a wily thief, and a Chinese Doctor (Xue Zuren).

The crew quickly makes their way to the temple, riding through treacherous terrain until they finally arrive at their destination. The temple, however, is no easy feat to infiltrate - it’s guarded by both sophisticated security systems and a group of skilled mercenaries hired by Matt’s sworn enemy, Chen (Yue Wu). In addition to being tasked with retrieving the Tangka, Xander and his team also have to contend with Chen's hired guns, who are working tirelessly to ensure that only they retrieve the valuable artifact.

The story takes unexpected twists and turns, with the team encountering one challenge after another that tests their limits. To avoid tipping off their enemies, the team chooses not to use any guns, relying instead on their wits and instincts. The action sequences in Diamond Dogs are commendable - viewers will be on the edge of their seats, watching the team dodge booby traps, fight off mercenaries, and find themselves in one dangerous situation after another.

Apart from the fantastic action scenes, Diamond Dogs also features well-developed characters. Lundgren’s character, in particular, is compelling, with a backstory that adds depth to his character. Xander's struggles with his past as a mercenary are evident, and it's heartwarming to see him form bonds with his teammates, particularly with Tommy. Nan Yu delivers a strong performance as Tommy, a street-smart thief with an agenda of her own. The Chinese doctor character played by Xue Zuren also provides some much-needed comic relief.

Overall, Diamond Dogs is a thrilling ride. With tightly choreographed action sequences, well-developed characters, and a solid storyline, this movie is sure to entertain action-thriller fans. It's worth noting that the film's setting in China provides a refreshing take on the genre, with breathtaking landscapes and a story full of cultural references. Even as the story's pace picks up to reach its climactic finish, audiences will find themselves invested in the characters and rooting for them to retrieve the artifact and make it out alive.

Diamond Dogs is a 2008 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 34 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.1.
