Simon Sparrow, now a senior doctor at St Swithins, falls in love with Delia, a model and aspiring actress. They eventually move in together, but then she departs to Italy to make a film.
Meanwhile, Spratt tries vainly to lose weight at a nature cure clinic, in order to make himself more attractive to women - and to Physiotherapist Iris Marchant in particular. Besotted with her, he has her followed, follows her himself and eventually proposes to her, but is rejected in favour of a retired army major.
Delia returns in England, apparently a success, and she and Simon get together again.
