Dolls is a 1986 horror film directed by Stuart Gordon and written by Ed Naha. The story follows a group of people who find themselves stranded in a storm and seek refuge in a creepy, isolated mansion. They are welcomed by an eccentric old couple, Gabriel (Guy Rolfe) and Hilary Hartwicke (Hilary Mason), who have a passion for dolls. As the night progresses, the guests discover that the dolls in the house are not just ordinary toys. They are alive, and they have a thirst for blood. The dolls begin to attack the group one by one, and the survivors must battle to stay alive.

The movie opens with a shot of a car driving through the rain, with a couple arguing in the front seat. They are David and Rosemary Bower (Ian Patrick Williams and Carolyn Purdy-Gordon), who are on a trip with their young daughter, Judy (Carrie Lorraine). Due to the storm, the family ends up crashing their car and seeking refuge in the Hartwicke mansion.

The old couple who live there seem welcoming enough, but there is something off about Gabriel and Hilary. They are obsessed with their collection of dolls, which they treat as if they are real children. This obsession is what drives the plot of the movie forward.

The characters in Dolls are all stereotypes: The businessman, Ralph (Stephen Lee), and his bimbo girlfriend, Isabel (Bunty Bailey); the punk rocker, Enid (Cassie Stuart), and her boyfriend, Dan (Micah Grant); and the old, wealthy couple, Gabriel and Hilary. However, the actors play their roles well enough to make the characters interesting and likable.

The visual effects in Dolls are impressive given the film's relatively low budget. The dolls are creepy and realistic, and their movements are fluid and lifelike. The practical effects used to show the characters being attacked are also impressive, with lots of gore and blood.

The movie's score, composed by Richard Band, adds to the creepy atmosphere. The main theme is a haunting melody played on a music box, which perfectly captures the eerie nature of the dolls.

Dolls is not a particularly scary movie, but it does have its moments of tension and suspense. The film leans heavily on its gore and shock value, but it does so with a sense of humor that makes it entertaining to watch.

One of the strengths of the movie is the way it subverts expectations. The characters who appear to be the most vulnerable are the ones who end up surviving, while those who seem strong and capable fall victim to the dolls.

Overall, Dolls is a fun horror movie that delivers on its promise of creepy dolls and gory mayhem. It is a cult classic that has gained a following over the years, and it is easy to see why. If you are a fan of 80s horror movies or just have a love for creepy dolls, then Dolls is definitely worth checking out.

Dolls is a 1987 fantasy movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 17 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.3 and a MetaScore of 55.
