Dreamcatcher is a horror thriller movie from 2003 that was directed by Lawrence Kasdan, where a group of childhood friends is reunited in a cabin in the woods in Maine, on the occasion of their friend's birthday. The movie stars a number of well-known actors, including Morgan Freeman, Thomas Jane, and Jason Lee. The plot of the movie revolves around four friends, Henry, Beaver, Jonesy, and Pete, who have been friends since childhood and have a special power that allows them to communicate telepathically. They also have another special power that they don't understand until they use it to save a young boy called Douglas in their youth. The story jumps between present time and their childhood, bringing us up to speed on their powers.

As they are out in the woods for their friend Jonesy’s (played by Damian Lewis) birthday, a deadly bacteria-like alien virus arrives intent on conquering Earth. The virus is carried by an alien creature referred to as the 'Ripley' after the character in the movie Aliens. The friends are caught in the middle of a powerful war between an alien species and the U.S. military, who know about the alien threat and have their own agenda.

One of the people who become embroiled in this conflict is Colonel Abraham Curtis, played by Morgan Freeman. Colonel Curtis is sent to the area with his armed forces to track down the alien creature known as the Ripley, which has contaminated the nearby city and its residents with the deadly alien virus. Colonel Curtis, assisted by his scientific expert, Dr. Owen (Tom Sizemore), and a psychic named Duddits (Donnie Wahlberg) - someone who shared the foursome's unique abilities but was afflicted with an illness that stalled his development as they grew up - all cross paths and it becomes apparent that they need each other, but to what end is unclear.

As the suspense builds and the friends are confronted with their fears, they discover that one of them has been infected with the virus and has been hiding it from the others. The question arises, can they survive the deadly virus, outwit the military, and defeat the alien invaders? The group has to work together to determine the answer and save humankind.

One of the striking features of the movie is its vivid and disturbing depiction of the rampant spread of the Ripley virus. It certainly gets the audience on the edge of their seat with its intense and graphic scenes, as well as gore, which experienced horror fans may well appreciate.

Dreamcatcher is an interesting story. It is engaging and unpredictable, and it keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. On top of that, the acting is as serious as it can be with a script and story that is anything but, making for an oddly compelling experience.

Overall, Dreamcatcher did not get a great reception, with mixed reviews from both audiences and critics alike, but for anyone interested in horror, science fiction, or friendship-driven action movies, it is still worth checking out. It combines different genres such as science fiction, horror, thriller and adventure to create a unique and compelling story. While it may not offer up anything particularly new or groundbreaking, Dreamcatcher is still an enjoyable and engaging movie experience that deserves a watch.

Dreamcatcher is a 2003 drama with a runtime of 2 hours and 16 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.5 and a MetaScore of 35.
