"Dum" is a 2003 Indian action-thriller film directed by E. Nivas and produced by Ali and Karim Morani under the banner of Cineyug. The movie stars Vivek Oberoi, Dia Mirza, and Atul Kulkarni in lead roles. The film opens with a flashback scene where a young man named Uday (Vivek Oberoi) is seen escaping from the jaws of death by the skin of his teeth. This sets the tone for the rest of the story. Uday's father was a freedom fighter, who was killed during a riot. Uday has now grown up and become a ruthless gangster who runs a nightclub called "XXX." He is known for his short temper and violent behavior, which is evident in the opening scene itself.

Meanwhile, the police are on a lookout for a notorious criminal named Shankar (Atul Kulkarni), who is being sheltered by Uday. The police raid the nightclub, but Uday manages to escape. However, the police do capture Shankar. Uday, enraged by the police's actions, decides to take revenge against them. He kidnaps the police commissioner's daughter, Shruti (Dia Mirza).

What follows is a tense standoff between Uday and the police, with Shruti caught in the middle. The police try to negotiate with Uday, but he is not willing to give in. Uday then announces that he will release Shruti only if Shankar is set free. The police have no option but to agree.

However, things take an unexpected turn when Shankar decides to take revenge against Uday for using him as a pawn. He teams up with the police to take down Uday and his gang. What follows is a high-octane action sequence, with Uday and Shankar pitted against each other.

The movie explores the themes of revenge, redemption, and the consequences of one's actions. It also delves into the idea of whether violence begets violence or if peace and reconciliation are better options.

Vivek Oberoi delivers a solid performance as Uday, the gangster with a heart of gold. He is convincing in both his violent and emotional scenes. Dia Mirza, on the other hand, is a bit underutilized in her role as Shruti, the hostage. Atul Kulkarni is excellent as Shankar, the criminal with a grudge against Uday.

The music of the movie is composed by Sandeep Chowta, with lyrics by Sameer. The songs "Babuji Zara Dheere Chalo" and "Jeene De" are particularly popular to this day, and the music itself complements the movie's fast-paced action.

Overall, "Dum" is an engaging action-thriller that keeps the audience hooked till the very end. The movie is well-directed, the performances are strong, and the storyline is compelling. It is a movie that deserves to be watched by fans of the genre.

Dum is a 2003 action movie. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.7.
