Easier with Practice is a 2009 independent drama film written and directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez. The film is based on a true story and follows Davy Mitchell, played by Brian Geraghty, a struggling writer who goes on a road trip to promote his unpublished novel. During his journey, he begins to receive phone calls from a mysterious woman who engages him in sexually explicit conversations.

The film opens with Davy attending an unsuccessful book signing in New Mexico with his brother Sean, played by Kel O'Neill. Disheartened and uncertain about his writing career, Davy decides to embark on a solo road trip to promote his book. As he travels through the Southwest, he spends his nights in cheap motels, reads excerpts from his book in bookstores, and hopes for the best.

As he drives late one night, he receives a phone call from a woman claiming to have dialed a wrong number. They chat briefly, but the conversation becomes increasingly sexual, and the woman abruptly hangs up. Over the next few nights, the woman calls Davy again, and they continue their conversations, which grow more intimate with each call.

As Davy becomes more infatuated with the mysterious Caller, he begins to neglect his book promotion duties and isolates himself from everyone, including his girlfriend. However, he never meets the Caller in person or knows her identity, and eventually, their relationship takes a dark turn.

Throughout the film, Davy's character is portrayed as introverted and socially awkward, and at times, vulnerable. He's struggling to find his footing as a writer and is disillusioned by the book industry's lack of recognition for new authors. He's also in a long-term relationship with a woman named Samantha, played by Marguerite Moreau, but their relationship is strained, and he's not sure if he's in love with her anymore.

The film explores themes of loneliness, identity, and human connection. It shows how technology can bring people together but can also create a sense of isolation and detachment. The plot is driven by the tension between Davy's desire for intimacy and his fear of vulnerability.

The film's pacing is slow and deliberate, allowing the audience to enter Davy's world and understand his character's motivations better. The use of close-ups and the sparse score accentuates the film's moodier tone and enhances the audience's intimacy with Davy's character.

The performances in the film are superb, with Brian Geraghty delivering a nuanced portrayal of Davy. Kel O'Neill also delivers a strong performance as Davy's brother and brings a much-needed levity to the film. Marguerite Moreau is also excellent as Samantha and provides a much-needed contrast to Davy's paranoid and obsessive behavior.

In conclusion, Easier with Practice is a thought-provoking and compelling film that explores the dark side of human connection through the lens of the digital age. It's not an easy watch, but it's a satisfying and powerful one that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
