Envy is a comedy film directed by Barry Levinson and released in 2004. The movie stars Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Rachel Weisz. The plot is centered around two best friends, Nick Vanderpark (Stiller) and Tim Dingman (Black), who work in a sandpaper factory. One day, Nick comes up with an idea for a spray product called Vapoorize, that makes pet poop disappear. His friend Tim, however, does not invest in the product, and instead chooses to live a simple and content life. Soon after, Nick's invention makes him incredibly wealthy, causing Tim to become envious of his friend's success.

The film begins by introducing the two main characters, Nick and Tim, as they work in the sandpaper factory together. Nick is a successful businessman and a family man with a beautiful wife, Natalie (Weisz), and two kids. On the other hand, Tim is an aspiring artist who is content with his simple life, wife, and child.

One day, Nick tells Tim about his latest invention, an environmentally friendly spray called Vapoorize, that completely vaporizes pet poop, leaving no trace behind. Nick invites Tim to become a partner in his business but Tim declines, choosing to stay in his current job. The product turns out to be a massive success, and Nick becomes a millionaire almost overnight.

As Nick's wealth and success continue to grow, Tim becomes consumed with envy and jealousy. He watches his friend's lifestyle change, including a new mansion and luxurious cars. Tim becomes obsessed with Nick's extravagant lifestyle and his own desire to become wealthy. He continuously compares himself to Nick and can't help but feel resentful towards him.

Meanwhile, Nick and Natalie's marriage begins to suffer. Nick becomes so consumed with his success that he neglects his relationship with his wife and she begins an affair with a wealthy businessman. When Nick eventually finds out about the affair, he becomes devastated, leading to a downward spiral in his life.

The two friends go through different phases of success and failure throughout the movie. Nick's downfall leads him to become a homeless man, while Tim's greed and envy lead him to a regrettable situation. They both eventually come to terms with their own imperfections and reconcile their friendship.

The film is a satirical take on the American Dream and the desire for wealth and success. It is filled with comical moments and witty one-liners. It focuses on the theme that money cannot buy happiness, and one must learn to appreciate the simple things in life.

The performances of the leading actors are commendable. Ben Stiller portrays the character of Nick Vanderpark with intensity, capturing the character's complicated emotions and his downfall. Jack Black brings humor and lightness to the movie with his portrayal of Tim Dingman, the character who grows more and more envious throughout the movie. Rachel Weisz delivers a strong performance as Nick's wife, Natalie, providing depth to a character who is multi-faceted and has an immense impact on the story.

Overall, Envy is an entertaining movie that provides a humorous commentary on the perils of the desire for wealth and the consequences of envy. It is an excellent watch for those looking for a feel-good, light-hearted movie with a moral message.

Envy is a 2004 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 39 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.8 and a MetaScore of 31.
