Far From Home is a 1989 American thriller film that follows the story of a young couple, who, after their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, find themselves caught up in a series of events that spiral out of control. The movie stars Matt Frewer as Charlie Cox, a cynical but streetwise writer, who travels with his girlfriend, Joleen, played by Drew Barrymore, across the Mojave Desert to Los Angeles, where Charlie has a book publishing deal waiting for him.

As they journey through the harsh desert landscape, their car breaks down, leaving them stranded in a small, rundown town called Red Rock. While waiting for their car to be repaired, Charlie and Joleen check into a local motel run by the eccentric and lonely owner, played by Richard Masur. The motel is the only place to stay in the small town, and they soon discover that the place is anything but welcoming.

The couple arrives in Red Rock on the same day that a serial killer begins his brutal attack on the town's residents. Soon, Charlie and Joleen find themselves embroiled in a web of deceit and danger as they try to escape the killer's grasp and uncover the truth behind the murders.

The tension in the movie builds not only from the danger Charlie and Joleen face from the killer, but also from the suspicion and mistrust of the town's inhabitants. Charlie is forced to rely on his own wits and cunning and develop a survival instinct that he may never have known he possessed.

As they delve deeper into the mystery surrounding the killer's identity, they discover that not everything is as it seems in Red Rock. With each twist and turn of the plot, viewers are left guessing who the next victim will be and how Charlie and Joleen will manage to stay alive.

The acting in Far From Home is superb, with all three leads turning in solid performances. Matt Frewer brings a dry wit to Charlie Cox, a man who is quick with a quip but also able to show his emotional vulnerability as the danger surrounding him and his girlfriend grows. Drew Barrymore also shines as Joleen, who starts off as a free-spirited girl but eventually shows her courage and strength in the face of danger. Richard Masur's portrayal of the motel owner is both creepy and intriguing, a character who may be trying to help the couple or could be leading them on a dangerous path.

The movie's cinematography is also noteworthy, with stunning shots of the Mojave Desert and the small, rundown town of Red Rock, which serves as an eerie and isolated location for the unfolding drama. The movie's haunting score adds another layer to the suspense and fear that build throughout the film.

Overall, Far From Home is an exciting and suspenseful thriller that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats until the very end. The movie is not only a tense whodunnit but also an exploration of human character and morality in the face of fear and danger. The film manages to create a world that seems both familiar and unnerving, leaving a lasting impression on viewers long after the credits have rolled.

Far From Home is a 1989 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 26 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.5.
