Fast Food Nation is a 2006 drama directed by Richard Linklater, and based on the 2001 non-fiction book of the same name by Eric Schlosser. The movie explores the dark side of the fast food industry and its effect on society, health, and the environment. The movie starts with Don Anderson (Greg Kinnear), a marketing executive for a fictional fast food chain called Mickey's. He is sent by his boss to investigate a high rate of fecal contamination in their beef, which is sourced from a meatpacking plant in Colorado. Once Don arrives in Colorado he is exposed to the harsh reality of the industry, and the workers who are exploited and exposed to dangerous working conditions.

Meanwhile, a group of Mexican immigrants, led by illegal immigrant Sylvia (Catalina Sandino Moreno), are working at the meatpacking plant. They are shown to be dehumanized and disposable to the company, who only care about maximizing profits. Sylvia becomes concerned about the safety of the food and tries to report it to the authorities, but is met with resistance and intimidation.

In a parallel storyline, a young high school student named Amber (Ashley Johnson) starts working at a local Mickey's restaurant to make some extra money. She becomes disillusioned with the job and the fast food culture, and eventually joins a group of animal rights activists who are protesting against the company's unethical practices.

Another storyline follows Harry Rydell (Bruce Willis), a veteran meatpacking plant executive who is losing his faith in the industry. He tries to warn Don about the dangers of the industry, and the unethical practices that are used to process the meat. Harry's character serves as a contrast to Don, who is initially naive and optimistic about his career.

Throughout the movie, the audience is shown the dark side of the fast food industry, including the exploitation of workers, the environmental impact of industrial beef farming, and the health risks associated with consuming fast food. The movie also touches on the issues of immigration and the exploitation of illegal workers.

Fast Food Nation is a thought-provoking movie that exposes the dark side of the fast food industry, and raises important questions about the ethical implications of our food choices. The movie has a talented cast, including Greg Kinnear, Bruce Willis, and Catalina Sandino Moreno, who bring depth and authenticity to their characters. While the movie is difficult to watch at times, it offers an important message about the importance of transparency and accountability in the food industry.

Fast Food Nation is a 2006 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 56 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.3 and a MetaScore of 64.
