In the 2013 film Felony, Joel Edgerton stars as Detective Malcolm Toohey, a highly respected and decorated officer in the New South Wales Police Force. After a night out celebrating a successful drug bust with fellow officers, Toohey hits a young boy while driving home. In a panic, he decides to cover up the accident and claim that the boy was the victim of a hit-and-run.

Tom Wilkinson co-stars as Detective Carl Summer, an experienced and no-nonsense investigator brought in to lead the case. Summer immediately suspects that something is amiss with Toohey's story and begins to investigate the incident and the officer's past. As the case unfolds, the lines between right and wrong become increasingly blurred, as Toohey struggles to maintain his reputation and the truth threatens to come to light.

Jai Courtney plays Jim Melic, a young fellow officer who becomes entangled in the investigation. Melic is Toohey's protege and close friend, but as the investigation progresses, he becomes conflicted about where his loyalties lie.

Felony is a tense and thought-provoking film that explores themes of corruption, morality, and the consequences of our actions. The performances are excellent, with Edgerton bringing a complex and nuanced portrayal of a man struggling with his conscience, while Wilkinson brings gravitas and authority to his role as the veteran Detective Summer. Courtney is also notable as the conflicted Melic, bringing a sense of vulnerability and empathy to the character.

The film is expertly directed by Matthew Saville, who brings a gritty and realistic aesthetic to the story. The cinematography is stunning, with the city of Sydney providing a beautiful backdrop to the tense and dramatic events unfolding onscreen. The screenplay, also written by Edgerton, is smart and tightly constructed, with twists and turns that will keep audiences guessing until the very end.

Felony is a film that will stay with audiences long after the credits roll, leaving them with questions about the nature of justice and the consequences of our actions. It is a powerful and thought-provoking drama that is not to be missed.

Felony is a 2014 mystery with a runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.1 and a MetaScore of 52.
