In an alternate world taking place in the 1950s, humanity is recovering from a kind of zombie Apocalypse. Thanks to a corporation named ZomCom, the remaining zombies have been tamed and are now being used as servants and pets. One family, the Robinsons, decide to adopt a zombie whom they name Fido, to help around the house and accompany their son Timmy to school.

Fido, played by Billy Connolly, is a star in this movie. He is endearing, and his expressions and movements are fantastic. He is often seen wearing a collar, a tie, and a suit, which is adorable in itself. The family struggles with their new pet, however, when Fido's control collar malfunctions, causing him to attack and kill, bringing back the fear of the old world Zombie apocalypse.

Kesun Loder plays Timmy, the Robinson's son, and gives a fantastic performance, bringing growth, compassion, and intelligence to a child's role. His character arc is mainly coming to terms with the world he lives in, the role of the undead, and his relationship with Fido.

Carrie-Anne Moss plays Timmy's mother, Helen Robinson, and is initially hesitant about the adoption of a zombie. However, as the story progresses, she becomes more attached to Fido and even saves his life.

The film itself carries a retro aesthetic and is an amalgam of post-apocalyptic horror and wholesome family values. Though it's mainly a horror-comedy, with a heart-warming coming of age subplot, it also touches on themes such as corporate greed, societal barbarity, and conformity.

The movie has a fantastic world-building that sets the scene of a world post- Zombie apocalypse. The streets and buildings are reminiscent of the 1950s, but there is a dystopian tinge. The sky is dark, and the air feels thick and heavy, just like the atmosphere of the film's plot. The barren wasteland surrounding the town shows the aftermath of society's collapse, punctuated by the presence of feral zombies.

Fido holds up exceptionally well, thanks to wonderful performances and a fantastic story. It walks the line between horror and humor with grace, and even the most jaded viewer would find Fido charming. It's a film that should hold a place in the annals of post-apocalyptic movies, considering that it manages to put a unique and fresh spin on the zombie Genre.

Overall, Fido is an amazing movie that blends horror, comedy, and coming-of-age cinema in a masterful way. Billy Connolly's performance as the titular character is unforgettable, and the film's aesthetic and tone are spot-on. This movie is a must-see for horror fans and anyone looking for a unique and interesting take on zombies.

Fido is a 2006 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 31 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.7 and a MetaScore of 70.
