Five Golden Flowers is a Chinese movie from 1959, directed by Jiayi Wang. Set in the early 1950s, the movie takes place in a small village in Yunnan, China. It tells the story of five young men who fall in love with a beautiful young woman named Xi'er, who is known for her singing in the village. The five men, who are all friends, decide to each try to win Xi'er's heart by bringing her a bouquet of five different wildflowers in order to show her their admiration. The first man, Jiulong (played by Likun Yang), is a poor peasant who works in the fields. He is in love with Xi'er and is determined to win her over. The second man, Tianpeng (played by Zijiang Mo), is a rich young man who comes from a wealthy family. He is also in love with Xi'er and sees her as a prize to be won.

The third man, Xiangzi (played by Jingzhen Sun), is a young man who works for the government and is interested in modernizing the village. He is also in love with Xi'er and tries to impress her with his ideas and his knowledge of the world outside the village. The fourth man, Da-Wu (played by Ah Feng), is a vendor who sells medicine and other goods in the village. He is in love with Xi'er but is too shy to express his feelings.

The fifth man, Laowu (played by Zhijiang Cai), is the oldest of the group and is always seen smoking a pipe. He is a hard worker who is respected by the others but is also in love with Xi'er. He tells the others that he has no interest in winning her heart and encourages them to pursue her instead.

As the five young men compete for Xi'er's affections, they must navigate the complicated social and economic dynamics of the village. They must also contend with the disapproval of Xi'er's mother, who sees them as poor and unworthy suitors for her daughter.

Despite these difficulties, the five men continue to pursue Xi'er, each one believing that he is the one who will win her over. Along the way, they learn about themselves and about the true nature of love.
