Flame and Citron is a Danish-German historical drama film directed by Ole Christian Madsen. The movie was released in 2008 and is set in 1944 Copenhagen during World War II. The film tells the story of two Danish resistance fighters, Flame (Thure Lindhardt) and Citron (Mads Mikkelsen) who operate under the codenames Flame and Citron, respectively. The duo are members of a resistance group, Holger Danske, that has been tasked with assassinating Danish collaborators and German soldiers.

Flame and Citron are portrayed as very different individuals with contrasting personalities. Flame is portrayed as a very focused and cold individual who is completely devoted to the cause. Citron, on the other hand, is more of a charmer who uses his good looks and charm to get his way. The two men develop a strong bond over the course of the film.

Flame and Citron's actions are orchestrated by their boss, Aksel Winther (Jesper Christensen), who is the head of the Holger Danske resistance group. Aksel gives Flame and Citron their orders, and the two men execute them without question. However, as the movie progresses, the duo begins to question their orders and the people they are working for. They start to wonder if they are really making a difference or if they are just pawns in a bigger game.

The story takes many twists and turns as Flame and Citron's missions become increasingly dangerous. They not only have to contend with the German forces but also with the Danish police, who are hunting down members of the resistance. This puts a strain on Flame and Citron's friendship as they become increasingly paranoid and suspicious of each other.

The film is very well shot, with beautiful cinematography that transports the audience back in time to 1944 Copenhagen. The set design is also outstanding, and the attention to detail is impressive. The film does a great job of capturing the mood of the time, with dark and somber tones that reflect the danger and uncertainty of the era.

Flame and Citron also features an impressive cast of actors who deliver powerful performances. Thure Lindhardt and Mads Mikkelsen are outstanding as Flame and Citron, respectively, and their chemistry on-screen is palpable. Jesper Christensen is equally great as Aksel, portraying the character as both calculating and compassionate.

The movie is not without its flaws, however. At times, the pace can be a little slow, and some scenes drag on longer than necessary. Additionally, some viewers may find the film's ending to be disappointing or anticlimactic.

Despite these minor flaws, Flame and Citron is an excellent movie that is definitely worth watching. It offers a unique perspective on World War II that is not often seen in cinema, namely the struggle of the Danish resistance against the German occupation. The film's exploration of the tension between loyalty to one's cause and doubts about its effectiveness is also thought-provoking and relevant even today.

Overall, Flame and Citron is a well-crafted historical drama that is both engaging and informative. It is a testament to the bravery of those who fought against tyranny during one of the darkest periods in human history.

Flame and Citron is a 2008 action movie with a runtime of 2 hours and 10 minutes.
