Fletch Lives is a 1989 comedy-mystery film directed by Michael Ritchie and starring Chevy Chase in the lead role as journalist Irwin 'Fletch' Fletcher. The movie is a sequel to the 1985 hit film, Fletch. The story of Fletch Lives takes place in Louisiana, where Fletch inherits a sugarcane plantation from his aunt. However, Fletch soon finds out that his inheritance is not what it seems. The plantation is in shambles, and the real estate agent who sold it to Fletch is murdered. Fletch decides to investigate the murder and soon finds himself tangled in a web of corruption and greed.

Fletch starts his investigation by talking to various colorful characters who live in the area. He meets Amanda Ray Ross (Julianne Phillips), a beautiful lawyer, who helps him out in his investigation. He also meets Ham Johnson (Cleavon Little), a local preacher who has a gambling problem, and Jimmy Lee Farnsworth (Randall 'Tex' Cobb), a wealthy developer who is trying to buy out all the small businesses in the area.

Fletch's investigation leads him to the wealthy and influential businessman, Calaghan (Hal Holbrook), who is running for governor. Fletch discovers that Calaghan is involved in a shady land scheme where he is trying to exploit the landowners to make money. Fletch also finds evidence that Calaghan is involved in some illegal activities, including bribery and murder.

As Fletch uncovers more information, he puts himself in danger, and his life is threatened by the people involved in the land scheme. Fletch uses his wit and humor to outsmart them and eventually uncovers the truth.

Fletch Lives is a well-written and well-directed film that keeps the audience engaged with its intricate plot and hilarious one-liners. Chevy Chase delivers an excellent performance as Fletch, who is witty, intelligent, and always one step ahead of everyone else. Hal Holbrook gives a convincing performance as the villainous Calaghan, while Julianne Phillips adds the much-needed female charm to the movie. The film also includes appearances by R. Lee Ermey and Richard Libertini, who add to the movie's humor.

The movie is set in the beautiful landscapes of Louisiana, providing an amusing and mesmerizing backdrop to the drama. The film's soundtrack includes several songs that complement the storyline and add to the atmosphere of the film.

Overall, Fletch Lives is an entertaining movie that will keep the audience laughing and guessing until the very end. The film's humor is balanced with action-packed moments that keep the viewers on the edge of their seats. Chevy Chase's performance as Fletch makes this movie a must-watch, and it is a worthy successor to the original film.
