Footy Legends is a 2006 Australian comedy film directed by Khoa Do and starring Anh Do, Angus Sampson, and Lisa Saggers. The film tells the story of Luc Vu, a Vietnamese-Australian young man living in the suburbs of Sydney, who struggles with poverty and cultural alienation. Luc is talented at playing Australian rules football, and he dreams of becoming a professional player, but his family and his community do not share his passion for the sport.

The film begins with Luc competing in a local footy tournament, where he catches the eye of a talent scout from the Western Sydney Wanderers, a professional AFL team. Luc is ecstatic at the prospect of joining the Wanderers and making a career out of football. However, his dreams are shattered when he learns that he needs to pay $5,000 to the club as a signing fee. Luc does not have that kind of money, and his job as a kitchen hand at a Chinese restaurant does not pay enough.

Luc's friend and teammate, Paul (Angus Sampson), suggests that they enter a local rap music contest, where the prize money is $5,000. Paul is a white Australian who is obsessed with African-American hip-hop culture, and he convinces Luc to join him in forming a rap duo called the Footy Legends. The two boys write a rap song about their love for Australian rules football, and they perform it at the contest. Despite their lack of musical talent, they win the contest and the $5,000 prize.

With the money in hand, Luc pays the signing fee to the Wanderers and joins the team. However, he soon learns that professional football is a harsh and competitive world, full of rivalries, injuries, and egos. Luc struggles to fit in with his teammates, who come from privileged backgrounds and have different values and interests than he does. He is also homesick for his family and his Vietnamese culture, which he has neglected in his pursuit of football glory.

Meanwhile, Paul becomes obsessed with the idea of making a rap album with Luc, which he believes will make them famous and wealthy. He spends all their money on recording equipment and studio time, but the results are disastrous, as neither Paul nor Luc have any talent for music. The two boys drift apart as their priorities and aspirations diverge.

As the Wanderers struggle to make the finals, Luc faces a crisis of identity and purpose. He realizes that he has been chasing a dream that may not be worth sacrificing his cultural identity and his friendships for. He also learns that football can be a means to an end, but not an end in itself. Luc decides to quit the Wanderers and return to his community, where he will use his football skills to inspire and mentor young people, instead of chasing personal glory.

Overall, Footy Legends is a heartwarming and humorous film that explores themes of youth, identity, culture, and ambition. The film is a tribute to the resilience and creativity of young people who face challenges and opportunities in a multicultural and rapidly changing society. The film showcases the talents of Anh Do and Angus Sampson, who deliver engaging performances as unlikely heroes who find their own way to success and fulfillment. The film is a must-see for anyone who loves Australian rules football, rap music, or inspiring stories of young people overcoming obstacles and discovering their true selves.
