Freeway is a 1996 crime-thriller movie directed and written by Matthew Bright, featuring Reese Witherspoon, Kiefer Sutherland, and Bokeem Woodbine in the lead roles. The movie tells the story of a young woman who takes matters into her own hands after being forced into a life of dysfunction and violence. Witherspoon plays the lead role, portraying the character of Vanessa Lutz, a troubled teenager who grew up in a dysfunctional family, witnessing and experiencing horrific abuse and neglect. She has turned to prostitution to earn money for herself and her drug-addicted mother. However, things take a turn for the worse when she finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time and accused of a crime she did not commit.

Kiefer Sutherland plays the role of Bob Wolverton, a seemingly charming but twisted psychopath and a serial killer, who preys on young girls. Wolverton is a disturbed psychologist who preys on young sex workers and toys with their minds before killing them. He is a deeply disturbing character, one that the audience cannot help but fear and hate simultaneously.

Bokeem Woodbine plays the character of Chopper, Vanessa's drug dealer and partner in crime. He's a violent man with a short fuse and a history of gun-toting. Although he has an amicable relationship with Vanessa, he's not above using violence to get his way.

The movie is a modern retelling of the classic fairytale "Little Red Riding Hood" with Vanessa as the protagonist, Wolverton as the Big Bad Wolf, and Chopper as the hunter. The movie cleverly weaves in elements and themes from the classic story into its plot, such as Vanessa's red hoodie, the menacing forest, and the innocent grandmother.

What sets Freeway apart from other films of its genre is the smart writing and direction, the strong performances of the lead actors, and the visceral, gritty realism of its storytelling. The movie doesn't shy away from portraying the harsh reality of life on the streets, with all its ugliness and brutality.

Reese Witherspoon delivers an amazing performance as Vanessa, capturing the character's vulnerability and strength with equal measure. Her transformation from a scared, traumatized teenager to a determined, tough survivor is a sight to behold.

Kiefer Sutherland is easily the standout performer of the film, giving a chillingly convincing portrayal of Bob Wolverton. His performance elevates the movie from being a simple thriller to a character study of one of the most deranged and dangerous villains in cinema history.

Freeway is a movie that will surprise and shock viewers with its twists and turns, and its unflinching portrayal of violence and abuse. It's not a movie for the faint of heart, but for those who enjoy edge-of-the-seat thrillers with strong performances and smart writing, it's a must-watch.

Freeway is a 1996 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 50 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.8 and a MetaScore of 61.
