Gacy is based on the true story of the notorious American serial killer and rapist, John Wayne Gacy, who was responsible for the brutal deaths of at least 33 young boys and men between 1972 and 1978. The movie, released in 2003, stars Mark Holton as Gacy and follows his life from childhood to his eventual capture and conviction for his horrific crimes.

The movie begins with a flashback to Gacy's childhood, where he is shown to have had a troubled upbringing with an abusive father and a neglectful mother. Gacy's father is shown to have been physically and verbally abusive towards Gacy and his siblings, often hitting them with a belt or dragging them out of bed in the middle of the night. Gacy's mother is shown to have been emotionally distant and neglectful, often leaving Gacy and his siblings alone for long periods of time. As a result of his trauma, Gacy suffers from a number of psychological issues, including depression and dissociation.

As Gacy grows older, he becomes increasingly isolated and begins to turn to alcohol and drugs to cope with his feelings of loneliness and despair. He also becomes interested in performing as a clown, and begins to dress up as a clown for various events and functions. Although Gacy's clown persona is a hit with children, he also uses it to lure his victims, many of whom he meets through his various business ventures, including a construction company and a fast food restaurant.

As the movie progresses, we see Gacy become increasingly brazen in his actions, even going so far as to murder a young man in his own home while his wife is sleeping in the next room. The police eventually become involved in the case and begin to investigate Gacy's past, uncovering a web of lies and deceit that he has spun to cover up his crimes.

The tension in the movie builds as Gacy's facade begins to crumble, and he is forced to face the consequences of his actions. The movie shows the emotional toll that his crimes take on his victims' families and on the detectives who work tirelessly to bring him to justice.

Overall, Gacy is a dark and disturbing portrayal of one of America's most notorious serial killers. Although the movie is difficult to watch at times, it is an important reminder of the devastation that can be caused by people like Gacy, and the importance of not turning a blind eye to the warning signs of such individuals. The performances in the movie are strong and haunting, particularly Mark Holton's portrayal of Gacy, which is both chilling and nuanced. For those interested in true crime stories, Gacy is a must-see.
