Eugene Benedict is a Native American who left home as a teenager and on a dare from his father, he joined the Marine Corps. Unfortunately for him, this occurred during the Vietnam War. The film chronicles Eugene's time in boot camp and in active duty in Vietnam. He eventually returns home but is seriously affected by Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. He experiences hatred from people in his community and must figure the best way to cope with his problems.
