Gharana is a classic Bollywood film released in 1961, directed by S.S. Vasan and starring Rajendra Kumar Tuli, Raaj Kumar, and Bipin Gupta. The movie follows the story of a wealthy family that owns a large estate called "Shanti Nivas". The patriarch of the family, Badriprasad (Bipin Gupta), is a strict disciplinarian who rules the house with an iron fist.

Badriprasad has three sons: Ashok (Rajendra Kumar Tuli), Ramesh (Raaj Kumar), and Brijmohan (Brijmohan). Ashok is the eldest and the most responsible of the three brothers, while Ramesh is a womanizer who spends his time chasing girls. Brijmohan is the youngest brother and is often overlooked by his father.

The story begins when Ashok falls in love with Usha (Ameeta), a village girl who happens to be the granddaughter of Badriprasad's friend. Ashok's love for Usha is not approved by Badriprasad, who believes that his son should only marry a girl from a wealthy family.

Meanwhile, Ramesh gets into trouble after he is caught trying to seduce a married woman. He is sent to jail, and his father disowns him. While in jail, Ramesh meets a young woman named Shanti (Lalita Pawar), who is also serving time for a crime she did not commit. Shanti tells Ramesh her story, and he falls in love with her.

As the movie progresses, the family faces several challenges. There is a conflict between Badriprasad and his brother-in-law, who believes that Badriprasad should give up his family's wealth and become a monk. Additionally, Ashok and Usha's love is threatened when Badriprasad arranges for Ashok to marry a wealthy girl named Lajwanti (Shammi).
