Ghostbusters is a 2016 supernatural comedy directed by Paul Feig and starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. It is a reboot of the original Ghostbusters film from 1984, with a new cast and a new story. The movie centers around four women who come together to form a ghost-catching team in New York City. Erin Gilbert (Wiig) and Abby Yates (McCarthy) are former friends and colleagues who wrote a book on the paranormal together, but went their separate ways after Erin got a job at Columbia University. When their book resurfaces years later, they reunite and decide to start a ghost-catching business with the help of engineer Jillian Holtzmann (McKinnon) and subway worker Patty Tolan (Jones).

The team quickly becomes popular in New York as they capture their first ghost at a rock concert, but they soon discover that a much bigger threat is looming over the city. A man named Rowan North (Neil Casey) is using technology to amplify paranormal entities and unleash them on the world. The Ghostbusters are the only ones who can stop him, but they must convince the city that ghosts are real and that they are the ones to take care of them.

The movie maintains the same humor and tone as the original Ghostbusters, with plenty of witty one-liners and slapstick comedy. There are also nods to the original film, such as cameos from the original cast members and a remix of the iconic theme song.

One of the main strengths of the movie is its cast. McCarthy, Wiig, McKinnon, and Jones have excellent chemistry and play off each other perfectly. Each character has her own distinct personality and skill set, and they all contribute to the team in their own ways. McCarthy and Wiig provide a more grounded and emotional core to the story, while McKinnon and Jones steal the show with their over-the-top antics.

The special effects in the movie are also impressive, with the ghosts being rendered in a mix of practical and CGI effects. The design of the ghosts is imaginative and original, with each one having its own unique look and abilities.

One area where the movie falls short is its villain. Rowan North is a fairly one-dimensional character with a generic evil plan, and he lacks the charm and charisma of past Ghostbusters villains like Gozer or Vigo the Carpathian. However, this is a minor flaw in an otherwise enjoyable film.

Overall, Ghostbusters is a fun and entertaining addition to the franchise. Its talented cast, humor, and impressive special effects make it a worthy successor to the original film. It may not be a groundbreaking masterpiece, but it provides plenty of laughs and action for those in the mood for a supernatural romp.

Ghostbusters is a 2016 action movie. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.8 and a MetaScore of 60.
