Goldfinger is based on Ian Fleming's novel of the same name. It is the third installment of the 007 film series featuring James Bond. Bond is investigating Auric Goldfinger, a dealer for gold bullions. Bond observes Goldfinger playing a game of gin rummy. While Goldfinger cheats during the game, Bond and Jill Masterson try to get Goldfinger to lose a hand. Bond is confronted by Oddjob and is knocked out. Jill dies and is found covered in gold paint.

Bond later is asked to find out how Goldfinger manages to smuggle gold around the world. The two meet and challenge each other to a golf game. The winner would receive a Nazi gold bar. Bond would win the golf match. Goldfinger then travels to Switzerland, where Bond follows him. Bond discovers that Goldfinger is melting gold and using the bodywork of his car to smuggle it. At the same time, Goldfinger converses with Mr. Ling, a Chinese agent. The two discuss "Operation Grand Slam." Bond is captured and taken hostage by Goldfinger. While on a private plane to Fort Knox, Bond meets Pussy Galore, Goldfinger's pilot. Bond manages to escape but is recapture upon hearing more details about Operation Grand Slam.

Goldfinger later plans on devaluing the gold stored in Fort Knox in an attempt to make his own gold supply more valuable and at the same time, giving the Chinese a leg up in their economy. While Pussy Galore attempts to spray a nerve gas, Bond seduces her and later informs the U.S. government about Goldfinger. The military forces guarding Fort Knox begin to play dead in order to ambush Goldfinger and his army. Goldfinger planned on attacking the fort with an atomic bomb. He manages to escape.

After fighting Oddjob, Bond with the help of an atomic specialist disarms the bomb. After saving Fort Knox, Bond flies to meet with the President. Goldfinger hijacks the plane but is later sucked out of the plane through a window.
