Gulliver's Travels is a classic animated musical film that first came to theaters in 1939. This classic movie is based on the novel by Jonathan Swift with the same name. The movie has a running time of 76 minutes and is produced by Max Fleischer. The story of Gulliver's Travels revolves around Lemuel Gulliver, a ship surgeon, who ends up on an island after a shipwreck.

Gulliver's Travels begins with an animation showing the narrator beginning to tell the story of Gulliver. The story then cuts to the shipwreck of Gulliver's ship, where he ends up on a strange, unknown island. He awakens to find that he is tied up by many tiny people, who are later called Liliputians. Lemuel Gulliver, who is much more significant to them, gains their trust and becomes their friend.

The Liliputians are a small race of people who live in a peaceful yet regimented society. There are two groups of people, the Big Endians, and the Small Endians. The conflict between these two groups is tense, and Gulliver gets caught up in their affairs. The heads of state, King Little and King Bombo, also get involved, and Gulliver has to take sides in their struggles. The scene is an entertaining way of providing whimsical fun as Gulliver becomes 'king,' dancing and singing.

The story moves forward, and Gulliver awakens in the land of the giants where he is captured by Brobdingnagians. Here, he's equally as small as he was big in the land of Liliputians. In this land, he helps his new friends, the Brobdingnagian king, and queen fend off enemies coming their way. Meanwhile, he gets to see their larger planets and their diverse culture. The scenes in Brobdingnag are memorable, providing a sense of discovery and wonder, all delivered in the form of fantastical animation sequences.

The viewers are then taken to the land of Luggnagg, which is an island populated by immortals. Gulliver is disappointed with finding out that immortality doesn't mean that one is disease or accident-proof. Then, Gulliver is off to visit Laputa, a floating island in the sky, where the residents perform various experiments with knowledge that they can't usefully apply to anything in their land. It could be perceived as a metaphor for knowledge without application.

Towards the end of the movie, Gulliver lands on an island where he meets the Houyhnhnms, a curious race of intelligent horses. Here, he also meets a race of talking animals who, alongside the Houyhnhnms, are at war with a less advanced and bestial race called the Yahoos. Slow to realize it, Gulliver understands that the virtuous Houyhnhnms are disgusted by Yahoo-like human beings, and so he leaves the island unwillingly.

As he returns home, Gulliver realizes that his adventures have come to an end. It's almost like he's set out to achieve something, and upon his completing his mission, he can return to his former self. The final scene culminates in a touching song that's reminders that home represents love and where his true happiness has always been.

In the end, Gulliver's Travels was a great movie that made an impact in 1939. Audiences enjoyed its fantastical story, lively animation, and memorable musical numbers. The story of Gulliver provides commentary on societal values, bridging gaps between differences, and redefining what it means to be human. Gulliver's Travels is a must-watch classic that transcends time and continues to spread the message of fighting for what is right in today's world.

Gulliver's Travels is a 1939 animated movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 15 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.6.
