Hatchet is a 2006 horror-comedy movie directed by Adam Green. The film centers around a group of tourists who explore a haunted swamp in New Orleans, but are attacked by a deformed, monstrous killer known as Victor Crowley. The film begins with a group of tourists embarking on a haunted swamp tour led by a disgruntled tour guide named Shawn. Among the tourists are Ben, a lovelorn aspiring filmmaker, his friend Marcus, a nerdy comic book enthusiast, and Marybeth, a girl seeking answers about her family's past. As the boat navigates through the dark, murky waters of the swamp, they encounter a series of bizarre, supernatural occurrences.

As they continue their journey, the boat encounters engine trouble, leaving the group stranded in the middle of the swamp. When they try to make their way back, they stumble upon Victor Crowley's lair, a dilapidated cabin in the woods. Unbeknownst to them, Victor was accidentally killed by his own father years ago, while trying to save him from a burning cabin. Now, Victor haunts the swamp seeking revenge against anyone who dares to enter his territory.

As the group tries to find their way back to civilization, they are relentlessly pursued by Victor, who goes on a killing spree, dispatching them in brutal, gruesome ways. With no place to run or hide, the survivors must band together to try and stop Victor's reign of terror before it's too late.

The film is a homage to classic horror movies from the 80s and 90s, with nods to films like Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Kane Hodder, who is best known for playing Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th series, portrays Victor Crowley in the movie. The film's practical effects, which were done by Robert Pendergraft, are also a highlight, with plenty of gory, over-the-top kills that will satisfy any horror fan's bloodlust.

Despite its campy, comedic tone, the film is genuinely scary at times, with some tense moments that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. The film also has a great cast of characters, with Joel David Moore giving a standout performance as Ben, the hapless protagonist who is thrust into a nightmare he never saw coming. Deon Richmond also provides some comic relief as Marcus, the wisecracking sidekick who brings levity to the otherwise dark proceedings.

Overall, Hatchet is a fun and entertaining horror movie that pays homage to the classics while still managing to stand out on its own. With its clever mix of horror and comedy, solid performances, and impressive practical effects, it's a must-see for any horror fan looking for a good scare.

Hatchet is a 2006 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 23 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.6 and a MetaScore of 57.
