Hellbent is a 2004 horror-thriller directed by Paul Etheredge and starring Dylan Fergus, Bryan Kirkwood, and Hank Harris. The movie tells the story of four gay friends who attend the Halloween party at a massive carnival in West Hollywood and suddenly find themselves the targets of a masked killer. The movie begins with two men making out in a parked car. Suddenly, a shadowy figure appears and brutally murders them. The next day, we are introduced to the four main characters: Eddie (Dylan Fergus), a reserved and serious young man; Joey (Bryan Kirkwood), a wild and carefree party boy; Chaz (Hank Harris), a tough and rebellious biker; and Tobey (Luke Weaver), the nerdy and lovable one of the group. The friends decide to attend the Halloween Carnival together and have a great time.

We see Eddie struggling with his attraction to Joey, but Joey is too busy chasing after other guys to notice. At the carnival, the friends are having a great time, and Eddie decides to enter a kissing contest to impress Joey. However, before the contest can begin, a mysterious masked killer appears and starts targeting them. From this point on, the movie becomes a suspenseful cat-and-mouse game as the friends try to survive and figure out who is behind the killings.

Hellbent is a unique movie due to its depiction of LGBTQ characters in a horror-thriller genre, which has historically been dominated by heteronormative tropes. The movie does not shy away from depicting the characters' sexuality; rather, it is an integral part of the plot and character development. It is refreshing to see a group of LGBTQ characters depicted as the heroes rather than the usual token characters or victims.

The movie has some genuinely terrifying moments, including a chase scene through a maze that had my heart racing, and an intense finale that left me breathless. The killer's mask is eerie and distinctive, and the cinematography is excellent.

However, the movie is not without its flaws. The plot is relatively straightforward, and the pacing can feel slow at times. Some of the characters, especially Joey, come off as one-dimensional and stereotypical, which can be frustrating. Additionally, the movie's low budget shows in certain areas, such as the special effects and some of the acting.

Overall, Hellbent is an enjoyable and suspenseful horror-thriller that sets itself apart from other movies in the genre due to its LGBTQ characters. It is not perfect, but it is a step in the right direction and an excellent example of how horror can be inclusive and diverse.

Hellbent is a 2004 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 25 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.5 and a MetaScore of 45.
