Hercules is an animated Disney movie that follows the titular hero on his journey from a simple farmer's son to joining the gods. As a child, his god-like powers were removed from him by Hades, the god of the underworld. However, his minions failed and left Hercules with just a shred of the power he once had. This shred is all he needs to become incredibly strong. Because he feels that he's different, his foster parents finally reveal that he's the son of a god. He goes to the temple of Zeus and prays to learn more about his past. Zeus reveals himself to Hercules and explains everything.
Hercules is joined by his winged horse, Pegasus, and a new trainer. The trainer, a satyr named Phil, used to train various gods before he started failing them. However, he comes out of retirement to help Hercules. The young man trains to become a hero and eventually succeeds.
Before long, he's famed throughout the land for his heroic deeds. Hades is enraged, and sends a beautiful young woman named Megara after him. She's working for Hades to find a weakness that Hades can use to bring Hercules down. Megara insists she won't ever fall in love again after selling her soul to Hades to help a former lover. He left her the instant she sold her soul. However, Megara finds herself falling for Hercules before too long.
In the meantime, Hades sets a trap for Hercules in the form of a hydra. Although Hercules successfully defeats the hydra, Zeus tells him he can't be called a hero just yet. Hades threatens Megara's life and offers Hercules the chance to save her. However, he'll have to give up his strength. When he's weakened, Hades releases Titans to take over Olympus from the gods. However, Megara is crushed under a pillar trying to save Hercules. This kills her and returns his strength. He defeats the Titans, but loses Meg. In order to save her, he rushes to the Underworld and bargains with Hades. He offers his life in exchange for hers.
Hercules' sacrifice was what it took for him to become a god. He can now rejoin his parents on Mount Olympus. However, he decides to stay on Earth after all. He joins Megara on Earth to live out a mortal life.
