Hereafter is a dramatic film released in 2010 that had a focus on the supernatural side of life. Matt Damon plays George Lonegan. George was at one time a professional psychic but he has quit giving psychic readings completely and went to work in a factory instead. George can commune with the dead but he turned his back on it when he could no longer handle the emotional toll it took on him personally. George's brother Billy, played by Jay Mohr, keeps trying to convince George to come back to his career as a psychic.
One day George's brother Billy brings by one of his wealthy clients and with much coercing convinces George to give his client a reading. The reading is a success but George lets his brother know that he will not do it anymore. He just can't take it. George meets a lovely young woman in a cooking class named Melanie, played by Bryce Dallas Howard. They embark on a dating relationship that is soon derailed once Melanie finds out that George is an authentic psychic. Melanie begs George for a reading and George finally relents even though he pleads with her to forget about it. He knows the personal cost this will have on their relationship. He sees that her father abused her as a little girl and wants to make amends and this ends their short relationship.
George ends up getting fired from his factory job and is talked into becoming a professional psychic again by his brother since he has nothing else to fall back on. George ends up changing his mind at the last minute and heads off to London where his life will intersect with a couple of parallel characters in the film. He may be the key to saving a young boy's life and his own future may be drastically altered forever by a mysterious woman. It is worth the watch to find out what happens in the end.
