Hideous! is a horror-comedy movie from 1997, directed by Charles Band. It follows the story of a mutated, living embryo that wreaks havoc on a small-town community after being accidentally awakened from its dormant state. The movie begins with a group of medical students who steal the embryo from a genetics lab and take it to an abandoned warehouse to study it. After accidentally exposing the embryo to radiation, it comes to life and begins to grow exponentially, developing into a grotesque and monstrous creature.

The mutated embryo escapes from the warehouse and begins to terrorize the surrounding community, attacking and killing anyone who crosses its path. The townspeople are in a panic, and the local police force launches a manhunt for the creature, with the help of the medical students who created it.

The movie is full of over-the-top gore and raunchy humor, making it a cult classic among horror-comedy fans. The creature itself is a repulsive sight, with slimy skin and razor-sharp teeth. Its victims are torn to shreds, with blood and guts flying everywhere.

Despite the bloody violence, the movie manages to maintain a tongue-in-cheek tone throughout, with a lot of winking humor and self-aware commentary on the horror genre. The acting is intentionally hammy, with Michael Citriniti delivering an over-the-top performance as the lead protagonist who takes charge of the situation. Rhonda Griffin is equally entertaining as his love interest, a tough-as-nails cop who is not afraid to get her hands dirty.

Other standout performances include Mel Johnson Jr. as a skeptical detective who starts off disbelieving in the existence of the creature, but quickly learns to take it seriously. Jacqueline Lovell also makes an appearance as a seductive nurse who becomes one of the creature's victims.

The movie's special effects are a mixed bag, with some impressive practical effects and some unfortunate use of cheap CGI. The creature itself is done mostly with practical effects, which gives it a gritty and realistic feel. However, the film does use some unconvincing CGI in certain scenes, which can be distracting.

One of the strongest aspects of Hideous! is its pacing. The movie moves briskly from one action-packed scene to the next, never allowing the audience to get bored. However, this also means that some scenes feel rushed or underdeveloped. The movie would have benefited from a longer runtime to flesh out certain characters and plot points.

Overall, Hideous! is a fun and entertaining horror-comedy movie that delivers on thrills and laughs. It may not be for everyone, as it can be quite gory and raunchy, but for fans of the genre, it is a must-see. The movie does not take itself seriously, and neither should the viewer. It is a perfect movie to watch with a group of friends, with plenty of opportunities to laugh and gasp in shock.

Hideous! is a 1997 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 22 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.8.
