The movie setting is at the high school were the basketball team the Wildcats are the senior class. Troy has a basketball scholarship but his heart is still with the brainy and talented Gabriella. Gabriella after graduation will be attending a different college than Troy in the fall. Gabriella and Troy are having trouble accepting the idea of being separated from one another while at college. The senior class and the Wildcats decide that a musical production will help address the fears, their dreams and hopes for what the future will hold for all of them. The senior class has some doubts about leaving the high school life behind.
