Holiday Heart is a movie written by Cheryl L. West, based upon her play. Directed by Robert Townsend, it was broadcast on the Showtime cable network. Gay drag queen, Holiday Heart (played by Ving Rhames) performs regularly at a local night club. He is a dedicated, tough, talented devout Christian. After his boyfriend passes away, he becomes friends with Wanda, a drug addicted woman (played by Alfre Woodard) and her daughter Niki (played by Jesika Reynolds). He offers the two a stable home environment and becomes Niki's father figure.
Wanda seems to be getting better, but she has a relapse. She has a bunch of bad relationships, including with drug dealer Silas (played by Mykelti Williamson). He is a chauvinist homophobe and bribes Holiday to stay out of their lives.
Holiday agrees to leave them alone since he is planning to move to Paris. Niki is left alone while Wanda starts prostituting to afford her drug addiction. Holiday decides to care for Niki, raising her as his own. Niki gets baptized at the Church and graduates from grade school with honors.
Silas returns, thankful for Holiday's help. He plans on taking Niki and Wanda to a new home in Florida, but still deals drugs. Niki is taken along on a drug deal, runs away and winds up with her mother, who tries to sell her daughter for drugs. As a result, Silas leaves Niki in Holiday's care. Niki becomes an angry and rebellious teen. However, Holiday resorts to tough love to set her straight.
Before Christmas, Wanda shows up at Holiday's nightclub, wanting his help to get clean and straighten out. They take a bike for Niki to Holiday's car and are attacked by Wanda's prior drug friends. Since Holiday was a former boxer, he fights them off but Wanda is run over.
Months later, Niki visits for spring break and she and Holiday visit her mother's grave. Silas returns, informing them that after their impending trip to Paris, he will have a surprise for them.
