Houseboat Horror is a 1989 horror movie directed by Kendal Flanagan and produced by David Hannay. The film follows a group of tourists who board a houseboat for what they hope will be a relaxing vacation. However, things take a turn for the worse when they discover the houseboat is haunted by the vengeful spirits of a family who were killed years before.

The movie stars Alan Dale as Jerry, the captain of the houseboat, and Christine Jeston as his love interest, Marilyn. The rest of the cast includes Craig Alexander as the obnoxious and boisterous Tony, and Des McKenna as the level-headed and sensible John.

The movie begins with aerial shots of the picturesque Australian countryside, accompanied by an upbeat soundtrack. We are then introduced to Jerry, a jolly man who works as the captain of a houseboat, and his love interest Marilyn, who joins him for the voyage. As they prepare the boat for the upcoming guests, we are introduced to the other characters. There's Tony, a loud and boisterous man who delights in playing practical jokes on the others, and John, the thoughtful and sensible member of the group.

As they set off for their journey, the group starts to encounter strange occurrences that escalate quickly. They find a mysterious young girl stranded in the middle of the river, and when they try to bring her aboard, they are met with hostility from some unseen force. As they continue their journey, their boat is sabotaged in different ways, and they realize they are not alone on the river.

With each passing day, the group becomes more and more paranoid, as they realize that the specter of death is looming over them. They start to see the ghostly apparitions of the family who were killed years before, haunting the boat with their spectral presence. As the crew sets out to solve the mystery of the murders and bring peace to the restless spirits, they must fight for their own survival.

The story builds slowly but surely towards a scary and suspenseful climax that leaves the audience on the edge of their seats. The director creates a chilling atmosphere by using sounds like creaking doors, growling dogs, and strange footsteps to create an eerie feeling. The cinematography adds to the tension, as we are shown the shadowy corners of the boat, and the flickering lights that reveal the ghastly apparitions of the family.

The acting is top-notch, with Alan Dale putting in a strong performance as the likeable and resourceful Jerry. Christine Jeston is great as his love interest, providing a layer of vulnerability and empathy that draws the audience in. Craig Alexander is perfectly cast as the obnoxious and irritating Tony, and Des McKenna brings a calm and stable presence to the group.

Overall, Houseboat Horror is a scary and suspenseful movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The film's use of atmospheric sound and visuals creates a creepy and foreboding tone that sets the stage for the scary events that follow. The story is well-crafted, with strong acting from the cast, and a satisfying conclusion that will leave you with a sense of closure. If you're a fan of horror movies, Houseboat Horror is definitely worth checking out.
